As a youngster, Dan had cut his teeth on music, singing in the family band. He grew up on a large cattle station in Outback NSW and by the time he’d reached high school, his consuming passion was country music.
Then, just like the young man who left the farm after an argument with his father in Where There’s A Road, (the first single from Dan’s Album), Dan left the family’s 400,000 acre cattle station, out West of Cobar, under spookily similar circumstances. He ended up travelling around America, chasing good country music, driving trucks, breaking horses and becoming more determined than ever to achieve his goal.
Four Years in the United States cemented Dan Murphy’s resolve to return to Australia and make a career out of country music. Dan’s ambition was further fuelled after receiving critical acclaim from his peers following successful shows at the Gympie Muster, Mud Bulls and Music Festival, and the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Following constant requests from the crowd for an album, Dan enlisted the help of renowned guitarist and producer Michael Muchow and headed to McCormack’s Music Cellar Studio where he laid down 12 tracks for his debut album Country Boy. Releasing 3 singles with supporting film clips, the songs enjoyed success in the charts on radio and on the Country Music Channel, staying in the Top 30 for a number of weeks! This includes the hit song ‘Outlaw’, co-written by producer Michael Muchow and Golden Guitar Nominee Katrina Burgoyne.
After being invited to perform at the 2010 and 2011 Sydney Royal Easter Show, where he sung to crowds of up to 20,000 in the Main Arena for 14 nights in a row, Dan received an amazing reaction from the audience. Singing songs from his debut album, Dan was ‘blown away’ by the acceptance and positive feedback he got from the huge crowd! Talks are currently underway for Dan to appear at the 2012 Easter Show!
Enjoying full-house shows in Nashville in 2009 and 2010, Dan and his band Murphy’s Law returned in 2011 for the third year in a row, completing 10 shows in the honky tonks and bars of America’s Country Music Capitol and are already booked for repeats shows for the CMA Fest, Nashville in 2012.
Meeting producer Mike Flanders in Nashville in 2011 prompted Dan to return to Nashville in August. Employing Mike’s extensive experience in producing music, made it possible for Dan to write and record his new album there. The result, “Livin’ The Dream” with a total of 12 tracks, includes 6 brand new songs co-written with some of America’s best songwriters, allowing Dan to finally tell his stories in song! The remaining songs were sourced from catalogues in Nashville and are all never before released songs The highly anticipated new album was released at the 2012 Tamworth Country Music Festival to a packed house and is receiving rave reviews from critics and fans alike!
Now based in Gunnedah, near Tamworth, Dan and his band are in high demand appearing at Rodeos, Campdrafts, Festivals, Clubs and Pubs. Dan can also cater for private parties and functions as a solo artist, duo or right through to a 6 piece band!
